Hopkinson’s Roast Chicken and Other Stories is often cited as the best or most useful cookbook of modern times.
For me, though, Week In, Week Out, is the better and most regularly thumbed book on my cookshelf. This is a collection of recipes taken from his time as the food columnist for The Independent newspaper (RIP), and is utterly delectable, from page 1 right through to 251. The food is timeless, the writing both friendly and authoritative, and the recipes work.
Who should have it?
Any level home cook.
Recipes to look out for
Skate and potatoes with red wine vinaigrette; St Clement’s cream; quails with peas.
If you’re already a fan
