It’s a somewhat abridged version of #Supplemental this week. I spent Saturday in North West Spain eating Brobdingnag sized aged Oxen, drinking multiple examples of local wine, and washing both of those things down with buckets of G&T. I also vaguely remember some tapas and long pours of Asturian sidra. Strangely, gluttony on the continent does not appear conducive to a studious review of the British food pages.
However, here are a few noteworthy bits and pieces I stumbled across on my journey home:
- Olia Hercules’ final Residency in ‘Cook’. Lovely intro, and mouthwatering recipes for Uzbek duck plov and a daikon, pomegranate and herb salad.
- The prawn shell infused oil, and the Bloody Mary salad in Mark Hix’s Independent column.
- Lizzie Mabbott’s steamed egg tofu with minced prawns and spicy sauce, also in the Indy.
- And a lovely, simple, hake with paprika and potato dish from Rowley Leigh in the FT.
Also, you must read this excellent piece by Hadley Freeman on the rise of the ‘Wellness’ gurus.
