A few friends and I had supper at Bocca di Lupo the other night (review to follow). We were going to go to Gelupo afterwards for dessert, but were given some gelato on the house during our meal, so our need for something sweet was satisfied a little earlier than expected.
However, as Gelupo is on my wish list for this month, I felt duty bound to make a second trip to Archer Street in the space of a couple of days to try it out. The sacrifices I make for this blog…
In short (this is, after all, just an ice cream parlour so I don’t think it requires a long review), Gelupo is a very smart looking gelateria, which serves excellent ice-cream. It describes itself as ‘artisanal’ and this is justified by the flavours on offer (almond, pine nut and fennel seed, etc). I think that’s pretty cool.
Slight grumble, though, is that you can’t see the ice cream (everything’s under a metal lid) which makes it hard to choose. The two people serving weren’t exactly promoting their wares or suggesting what I should have either.
Nevertheless, I did get to try a couple of flavours (after asking nicely) and eventually settled on having a tasty waffle cone with one ball of rice and one ball of ricotta, coffee and honey. Both flavours were bloody good and I will be returning to try more, even if I have to ask really nicely.
£3 for two (smallish) balls in a waffle cone.
